Concerning the differences between the Aramaic of Daniel and The Genesis Apocryphon, Collins argues that this “shows the beginning of a transition in the language, but the usage of Daniel is still within the spectrum of what we find at Qumran”.[279] He concludes:

“It is doubtful whether a firm line can be drawn between the Aramaic of Daniel and that of Qumran. The Qumran library preserved a range of documents that illustrate a transitional phase in the language. Although individual documents such as Genesis Apocryphon may be somewhat later than Daniel, it would be hazardous to attempt a dating relative to 1 Enoch or to the Targum of Job on linguistic grounds, especially in view of the variations between the Qumran fragments of Daniel and the MT. Even the language of the Genesis Apocryphon has many parallels with Daniel”.[280]
